Quartz watch is a battery powered watch that uses a small crystal to keep track of time. There is a circuit in the quartz watch that gets power from the battery. The circuit sends a small electric signal to the quartz crystal and causes it to vibrate. Quartz vibrates at virtually the same frequency every single time. It is so accurate that the microchip calculates the time based the number of vibrations. When the quartz has vibrated 32768 times, the chip determines that one second has passed. However, this method is not one hundred percent perfect. Quartz will vibrate at a slightly different rate based on ambient temperature.
