Military watches are specifically designed for use by armed forces. The very first military watches were made for use on warships. Wars triggered the need for military watches designed to keep time in critical situations. Hacking was an important feature to enable two or more watches to have synchronized time, a vital part on multiple operations. Military watches are made to be durable, stealthy and lightweight. Also, legibility is an important factor to consider. Over the years, several features were added in military watches to aid soldiers gain easy access to accurate time and other useful functions.

Today various Japanese brands offer a variety of military watches such as Seiko Military watches; Casio, in the form of shock resistant watches, the G-shock which is popular in the army nowadays; and Orient military watches.
